If you remember back in May, an EF-1 tornado swept through DeFuniak Springs, leaving significant damage in its wake.
The reality is this: when a disaster doesn’t meet certain thresholds, official assistance programs aren’t activated, meaning resources like FEMA or state aid aren’t available. When programs can’t be turned on, homeowners are left to shoulder the physical and costly burdens alone.
But not in Walton County.
When a homeowner reached out last month asking for help, our network of volunteers didn’t hesitate. Over the last two weeks, WaltonCounty BaptistAssociation volunteers have cleared more than 16 trees from the property—an extraordinary show of service, compassion, and community spirit.
A huge THANK YOU to these selfless individuals and our Walton County Public Works crews for stepping in to haul away the debris from the right of way, ensuring the work could continue safely and smoothly.
Let this be a reminder: It’s okay to ask for help. While we may not always have the direct tools to fix a problem, we have a powerful network of partners, volunteers, and neighbors who are willing to step up and make a difference.
In EM, our mission is simple: Serve the most vulnerable on their worst days. And this, is what that looks like in action.
