SUNDAY IN FREEPORT: Walton County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Palms neighborhood located off 331 Business after multiple reports of a man displaying firearms and discharging multiple rounds from a handgun.
When deputies arrived, they determined the suspect had pointed a shotgun at a nearby residence and subsequently pointed a 1911-style pistol at a neighbor.
The suspect then proceeded to the back of his residence and fired eight .45 calibre rounds at a fence in the direction of the Verandas, an adjacent neighborhood. Eight spent shell casings were found behind the home.
Due to the dense wooded area, no one was hurt, and no structures appeared to have been hit. Visible damage was done to the fence.
The suspect, Luke Scarborough, 35, resides in a multi-unit townhome community, where numerous residents live. His actions posed a major threat to public safety. He was immediately taken into custody.
Deputies made contact with Scarborough, who voluntarily provided written consent to surrender the firearms. Walton County Animal Services, Florida, also responded and took custody of the animals belonging to the suspect.
Scarborough was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, eight counts of discharging a firearm, and improper exhibition of a firearm. He was given a $10,000 bond and is still incarcerated at the time of this release.
