Clyde Reed was born on February 24, 1934, in Geneva, Alabama, to the late Charlie and Alice Reed.  He was raised with strong family values, faith, and a dedication to hard work that he carried throughout his life. Clyde later met and married the love of his life, Effie Reed, and together they built a beautiful life and family, raising five children.  Their home was filled with love, laughter, and lessons that will live on through generations.

Clyde was a devoted worker who spent many years employed at H & K Hatchery, when the company relocated, he transferred to Perdue Farms, where he continued to serve faithfully until his retirement.  Known for his mechanical skills and sharp hands-on experience, Clyde earned the title of the “Shade Tree Mechanic”.  He could fix just about anything, but his true passion was working on his lawnmowers and weed eaters, always keeping them in perfect condition.

Clyde’s humor, kindness, and charm left an impression on everyone who crossed his path.  He was known by many nicknames “Reedy Deedy”, his street name that most recognized him by, and “Whopper Jr.”, a name that came from his almost daily visits to Burger King after retirement. Clyde lived a simple, fulfilling life centered around family, friendship and faith.  His legacy of love, hard work, and laughter will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew him.

Clyde is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Effie Reed; his loving parents, Charlie and Alice Jones Reed; his sisters, Annie Mae Miller, Rosa Helen Reed, Eddie-Re Dawkins, and Maryel Wilson; and his brother, James Williams.

Clyde leaves to cherish his precious memories his sons, Wayne Reed and Jimmie “Skeeter” Reed; and his daughters, Frederica Copeland (Alphonso), Fatinee Richardson, and Cassandra Andrews, all of DeFuniak Springs, Florida.  He is also survived by his grandchildren, Natasha Reed (Chicago, IL), Kizza Copeland (Jacksonville, FL), Kara Reed (Quincy, FL), Arneatrice “CO” Wilson (Lorenzo) and Andrew “Pooda” Wilson, Jr. (Yana) (DeFuniak Springs, FL), Komeika Reed (Arizona), Wayne Reed, Jr. (Kayla) (New Baden, IL), Brentan Andrews and Davan Laird (Deja) (DeFuniak Springs, FL).  His legacy continues through his great grandchildren, Rakeyla Anderson, Roger Anderson, Jr., Roger Anderson, III, Shai Matthews (Mercedes), Dariyon Moore, Amya Wilson, Kayne Reed, Madelynn Reed, Lola Reed, Arneatria Pouncy, Lakayla Jefferson, Lakalee Jefferson, Lorenzo Jefferson, Jr., Kiyonna Pate, Donnell Pate, Jr., Diontre Pate, Kyngston Laird, Kaylee Laird and Khamaya London.  He was also blessed with great-great grandchildren, Anaya Burnam, Rayden Byrd, Raykel Byrd, King Matthews, Amonnie Matthews, Jamiyah Lee, Janeli Tanguma, and Shai Matthews, Jr.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 1, 2025 in the chapel of Davis-Watkins Funeral Home, 1474 State Highway 83 North, DeFuniak Springs, Florida, beginning at 10:00 a.m. A time of visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Committal services will follow at Magnolia Cemetery.
