n the spirit of Thanksgiving, we want to recognize a local family who has come to mean a lot to our B-Shift crews at Station 1.
Sweet Isla Moss unfortunately experienced a significant febrile seizure this past summer. The onset of the seizure was unexpected and extremely frightening for her parents- a feeling fellow parents can likely understand.
Isla’s condition led to a 911 call and the response of our crews, who provided critical medical care and transported her for further treatment.
Isla thankfully returned within a few weeks to her bubbly and pink-loving self. That’s when her dad, Walter, contacted us and helped line up support for the firefighters who cared for Isla that day.
We have since been blessed multiple times by visits from the Moss family, who went so far as to provide an amazing Thanksgiving meal for our firefighters.
The pediatric events like Isla’s leave a lasting impact on all involved. We know the weight of those responses can stack up over time, and it’s rare that we have the chance to witness how a child is able to recover.
There’s no better time than the week of Thanksgiving to express our gratitude for the Moss family, who has given us the opportunity to reunite under positive circumstances and bring Isla’s bright smile within the walls of our fire station.
We’re still working on recruiting her for a future firefighter hiring class… but we’re hoping a little pink around the stations will go a long way.
Thank you to the Moss family for the permission to share this story. We are so grateful to you!
