We are sharing the story of a positive outcome of a cardiac arrest call with our community today and recognizing the responding Station 1 personnel, as well as Emerald Coast Urgent Care staff.
The call occurred in Inlet Beach on May 6, 2025, in the urgent care center’s waiting room. Our units were dispatched in response to a 911 call from the Urgent Care Center, whose staff stated an adult male had been complaining of chest pain before he collapsed in the waiting room and became unresponsive.
When our units arrived on-scene, they found several of the staff members had patient care underway. This included the staff performing effective CPR with an AED attached, establishing an IV on the patient, and administering medications.
Firefighters then assumed the patient’s care and after several rounds of additional interventions, they obtained Return of Spontaneous Circulation, or “ROSC,” then transported the patient to the hospital.
We later learned in our clinical follow-up the patient was discharged from the hospital approximately one week later with no neurological deficits.
As stated by our responding firefighters: This was an excellent example of the chain of survival and how the efforts from the staff at the urgent care lead to our crews having the best opportunity for a positive outcome.
This is also an extra special call for us because it involves the first “save” for Engine 6. The call took place less than one month after the new engine was put into service.
Thank you to the staff members of Emerald Coast Urgent Care’s Inlet Beach location who joined us Wednesday morning for a Lifesaving Coin presentation! These coins are only given out for the most critical of medical events, and we are incredibly proud to recognize all involved for their work.
