Mrs. Socorro Ramirez, age 95, passed away July 18, 2025. She was born November 22, 1929 in Aqililla Michuacan, Mexico to Luis Comparan and Imelda Oseguera Comparan. She was one of eight children.
Mrs. Socorro Ramirez was a resident of Santa Rosa Beach Florida, a devout Catholic and a member of St Rita Catholic Church. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother.
Mrs. Socorro married Edmundo Ramirez and had five children in Mexico City. The family moved to Chicago, Illinois in 1955, where she worked as a seamstress for Dr. Scholl’s Factory until retirement. Socorro also worked as a principal cook at El Jarocho Restaurant and as a food preparation worker and server at Holy Name Cathedral school while supporting her children’s Catholic education. In addition, she worked as an Avon saleswoman.
Mrs. Ramirez is preceded in death by her father Luis, mother Imelda, husband Edmundo of 66 years, son Manuel, her brothers Chema, Luis, Rodolfo, Jesus, sister Francisca Esturkey, Theresa Espinosa and Martha Flores. Her surviving family consists of daughters Imelda (married to Ed Diaz), Rosa (married to Ivan Molina), Socorro (married to Dennis McFarland), and Elena Gaona. She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, twenty-six great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
Socorro could often be found tending to her garden or humming a cherished melody while cooking. Her home was filled with laughter, good food, and family.
Socorro’s faith, warmth, and generosity left a lasting impact on all who knew her. She found beauty in everyday life, weaving her traditions and wisdom into the fabric of her family. Her unwavering support and encouragement uplifted her children and grandchildren, shaping them into compassionate, resilient individuals. She will be missed and remembered for her kindness, dedication, and the traditions she shared.
