Wednesday evening, the South Walton Fire District’s C-Shift firefighters and the Florida Forest Service-Chipola District responded to a brushfire near Whispering Shore Cove in Santa Rosa Beach.

The fire covered approximately 2.5 acres, but fortunately surrounding structures were not damaged and no one was injured.

Throughout the incident, firefighters worked in multiple operational divisions to cut off the fire’s progress as our FFS partners drew containment lines with heavy equipment. Our featured picture is some drone footage of the fire. While not every incident requires the department to deploy a drone, they are incredibly powerful tools we use for tracking brushfires and making better-informed command decisions at a scene.

The FFS is still investigating the cause of the fire as of the time of this post.

Strong work to all responding crews!
