Walton County Fire Rescue and Walton County Sheriff’s Office, Florida are on scene of a large diesel spill coming from a sunken boat at Portland Landing at Alaqua Creek west of Freeport. Fuel is actively leaking into the water and flowing downstream.
A WCFR battalion chief with advanced HAZMAT training is leading the response. Walton County Emergency Management and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection have been notified and are en route to assist.
The landing is closed and is expected to remain shut down for an extended period of time.
Please avoid the area so crews can safely manage the scene.
