On May 19th, our agency received reports of multiple vehicle burglaries in a local subdivision, where suspects entered unlocked vehicles and stole three firearms along with various personal items, including a pair of AirPods.
Thanks to quick work by our department—and the help of the victim who was able to track the AirPods’ location—we traced the signal to a residence in Holmes County. This information led to the identification of three juvenile suspects, who later admitted to their involvement in the burglaries.
We successfully recovered two of the stolen firearms, the AirPods, and several other items. The suspects claimed to have discarded the third firearm into the river. As of today, all involved juveniles have been arrested or are currently being held for our department.
Let this serve as a reminder: always lock your vehicles and remove valuables. While we were fortunate to recover the stolen items in this case, many incidents don’t end so positively.
We want to extend a special thank-you to the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office. Their responsiveness and teamwork played a critical role in helping us quickly identify the suspects and recover stolen property. We also thank the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team for their efforts in assisting with the search for the discarded firearm.
