WALTON COUNTY, FLA — An inmate is found unresponsive in his cell early Sunday morning at the Walton County Jail.
Jessie Raby was being held in confinement for Holmes County after he was arrested and charged with the murder of his mother and his brother in 2024.
While in confinement, security checks were performed every 30 minutes.
The last security check before Raby was found unresponsive was 0545 hours Sunday. Raby was seen and was observed acting normal.
When breakfast was served 15 minutes later, Raby was observed on the floor on his back.
Safety protocols were followed and a team entered the cell. It was determined Raby needed medical care and a nurse stepped in and provided care. The nurse found foreign objects blocking Rady’s airway and removed what appeared to be a cloth, a sock, and pieces of toilet paper from his airway.
CPR was started and when EMS arrived they took over the care of Raby. EMS pronounced his death at 0637 hours.
The whole incident was captured on security cameras.
The District 1 Medical Examiner was contacted and responded. Raby’s family was notified.
This case is pending autopsy, but at this time his death appears to be a result of his own actions.
